Monster MolsonCoors Deal Shakes Up European Market

MolsonCoors completed their ACQUISITION of StarBev this week.  It cost them a mere $3.54 billion.  Most of StarBev’s 20+ brands are based in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria.  In spite of the enormity of this deal, the average American beer drinker won’t see a change in the craft landscape.

StarBev currently operates nine breweries in Central and Eastern Europe and holds the top three market share position in each of its markets. It has a strong portfolio of more than 20 brands such as Borsodi, Kamenitza, Bergenbier, Ozusko, Jelen and Niksicko. StarBev also distributes brands such as Stella Artois, Beck’s, Hoegaarden, Lowenbrau and Leffe under license. Following the completion of the deal, StarBev will become a separate business unit of Molson Coors and will be headquartered in the Czech Republic.   via Investopedia
