Today is one of those days that many beer geeks have marked down on their calenders. Three Floyds Brewing is holding its annual Dark Lord Day at their brewery in Munster, Indiana. A Russian Imperial Stout made with Intelligentsia Coffee, Mexican vanilla, and Indian sugar, Dark Lord holds a near mythic place in the craft pantheon. What makes this event different from other beer releases is the mystery surrounding which booze barrels, and with which ingredients this years batch was aged. In the past, a wide variety of barrels have been used, including 23 year old Pappy Van Winkle bourbon, Woodford Reserve bourbon and brandy barrels. Add in the aforementioned vanilla and coffee beans, and it sounds like Heaven. Three Floyds holds three release sessions over the course of the day, complete with great music, food, and a good deal of beer trading. If you have the privilege of attending please post some pics on Hooch & Hops Facebook page. If you can’t make it follow the action on Twitter @DarkLordDay #DLD2012 or on Three Floyds’ Facebook page.
As always, cheers, and Drink Better,
