Beer of the day…..Wachusett Larry IPA

This Imperial IPA from Wachusett Brewing Co. located in Westminster, MA clocks in at 7.50% abv and is a rotational release originally brewed for the “Hop Head Throwdown” which was a benefit for MS in 2009.  This offering poured from a 22oz bottle an amber color leaving a creamy big  off white head with retention that holds and clings to the glass.

The aroma is floral, sweet, candied citrus, nice nose.  The taste is brisk, highly carbonated, with a nice hop profile, grapefruit, but nicely balanced with a little caramel syrupy malt bill that helps balance this beer.  The mouth feel has a spicy feel, carbonation, a bit on the light side for an Imperial IPA but nothing deterring.

This double IPA from Wachusetts is a great example of some of the solid beers coming from MA and the northeast in general.  Distribution on this beer is limited mostly local so if your in the area and can still find it pick it up and for around $8/22oz this is again another great value.

Cheers, Frank
